You know that because of the wing dihedral the tanks are installed at an angle, with the inboard end well below the outboard end.
With the airplane relatively level, when the fuel on the floor of the tank just touches the bottom of the outboard wall there is very close to seven gallons.

Half way between that point and the tab is 12 gallons.
